As a small, open economy, Estonia depends on the external environment, but we can influence this external environment via international organisations and associations. Foreign communication is an important part of the daily activities of the Ministry of Finance and our contribution to pursuing the interests of Estonia.
The main partners of the Ministry of Finance are the IMF, OECD, World Bank and other international financial institutions, incl. the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the Nordic Investment Bank (NIB) and the Council of Europe Development Bank. We develop active bilateral relations in the Nordic-Baltic region, incl. development cooperation with the authorities of target countries and other partner states.
In international financial institutions the ministry seeks to use its expert knowledge to steer the developments of the public and private sectors of Estonia and promotion of development cooperation. Our goal is for the EU to be surrounded by democratic countries that value a free market economy, and we also want to see a world order and international organisations that value democracy and the market economy.
